Marathon Jam for Fisher House Returns

It’s Bluegrass Marathon time with twelve hours of great bluegrass music by local artists.

So mark your calendars for Saturday, February 25th, at the American Legion Post in Chapel Hill, at 1714 Legion Road.  The music starts at 1 p.m. and continues NON-STOP for twelve hours.  It ends at 1 a.m.!

Bring your friends, bring your family.  Stay a while or come and go.  But, once you arrive you are sure to want to stay for a few hours to listen to some great music and the sounds inspired by the immigrants of the British Isles; especially the Scots-Irish immigrants of Appalachia.

The Bluegrass Marathon is a project of John Santa, a local musician and strong advocate of the Fisher House in North Carolina.  Each year he organizes this great event to draw attention to our military families who are away from home visiting an injured, sick, or wounded serviceman or woman.  John Santa is the author of Bluegrass Is My Second LanguageLearn more....

The cost to attend is free, but you are encouraged to feed the musicians’ kitty.  Better yet, you can support them ala “playathon”.  Think of it as a walkathon for music. You can sign up and support the musicians by the hour. The more they play, the more you pay.  If you pick $5 per hour and they play for 12 hours, your pledge will be $60.  How much you pledge is up to you, but be generous!  Our goal is $10,000.

You can also help make the event a success by bringing a covered dish to feed the many musicians who are participating.

All money, that’s every penny, goes to the North Carolina Fisher House!  The Fisher House is part of the Fisher House Foundation’s 37 houses at military hospitals.  Each is there to provide low cost temporary lodging for military families while the military member is undergoing treatment or surgery.  “Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 120,000 families, and have made available nearly 3 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990.”  Learn more...
